To make up for our vacation downtime, and in response to customer feedback, we are extending our Summer 2010 Limited Edition perfume lines for two more weeks (through 8.15.10). We will not be purchasing more supplies for these perfumes though, so quantities are still limited and availability is on a first come, first served basis.

OUT OF STOCK/INVENTORY

We've had more than a few emails asking why products that are saved in your member shopping cart were sold out when you came back to purchase. As a member, you may add products to your cart and they will conveniently remain in your cart until you decide to purchase. Remember though, this action does not take those products out of Good Judy's inventory. Inventory is only affected when products are actually purchased, not just saved in the shopping cart. So there is always a chance that an item you have in your cart may be sold out when you are ready to purchase. Adding products to your shopping cart does not guarantee they will be available when you decide to purchase them in the future.

Also, as a reminder, sold out items are not available as Whiff selections. If the item is sold out, that means we no longer have supplies to create that product.

Good Judy has opened The Vault and inside we found a wintry mix of perfumes. It's Christmas In July. It's official! Good Judy is a permanent vendor every Fri, Sat, and Sun from 10-5 at The Downtown Market (45 South French Broad, Asheville...booth 40). Magic Bean Candles and Kirsten's Jewelry will be there too.

Stop in and say hi this weekend. We're going to have a "soft grand opening" so the booth will not be stocked full, but there will be plenty to try and buy! Once we get adjusted to the wonderful new space, we will be fully stocked. Hopefully by mid-May, there will be an option for picking up orders purchased on the website. Bee's Knees: Saying something is the Bee's Knees means it is the best of the best. The height of excellence. The ultimate. Synonymous with the Cat's Pajamas and the Frog's Eyebrows. Honeysuckle, white honey, michelias, wildflowers

Cake Eater: A real Lady's Man…also known as a lounge lizard, a Cake Eater indicates a slick young Romeo who wows the flappers and likes the high life. A Cake-Eater, when he's not trolling for jazz-babies at the local speakeasy, likes to loiter at a girl's house and be pampered, especially by being served his sweetie's baked goods…and of course some degree of sexual metaphor might be inferred. Cat's Pajamas: Kin to the Bee's Knees and the Frog's Eyebrows, the Cat's Pajamas equated to all the fun, cool, hip happenings of the 1920s. Flannel pajamas, creamed milk, vanilla orchid, Egyptian spices

Clip Joint: Clip Joints attracted clientele, usually seeking less than honest fun, by the promise of providing illicit services. Clip Joints were rarely on the level. Once the dough was exchanged, the services hardly lived up to expectations. The poor sap would get the bum's rush and end up balled up and broke. Flapper: The quintessential women of the 1920s! Free spirited, risk-taking, and fun, she wore makeup, she wore her hair in an Eton cut bob, and she smoked and drank with the boys. Her keen style was completed with tight, hip-level drop-waist dresses that shockingly ended just below the knee. A tightly wrapped chest replaced the cumbersome corset (these gals were hoofers!), and their boyish androgynous looks were sexed up with stockings and garters, perfume and pearls, feathers and boas. Fly Boy: Fly Boys were the ruggedly handsome rock stars of the 20s. These aviators were treated like royalty, and they certainly walked the walk. Epic flights, barnstorming, showing off their daredevil skills, and the thrill of danger rocketed Fly Boys to stardom. Aviator fashion became history! Mother Mary: For my mother, with all my love. I’ve been working on this one for a while. It had to be just right. This one is for my mom.

My mother and I were great friends. Pals for life. We could talk for hours and talk about anything and everything. She was my confidant and my shoulder to cry on. She was my biggest fan! My mother was a no-nonsense, kind-hearted, and loving person who gave everything for her family (most times at great personal sacrifice). Like many women of her generation, her confidence was an illusion, but her love was not. That woman shined bright and fierce for 58 years. Whether it was running her self-made business, or pleasing her you’ll-never-be-quite-good-enough-for-us parents, she worked hard her whole life. At the end of her time on this Earth, my mother finally caught a brief glimpse of her true purpose. She saw herself for who she truly was…and I was there to see it with her. That recognition made my life, and hers, complete. My mom passed away in 2003. I was holding her hand when her spirit left, and it was the most beautiful and heartbreaking moment of my life. She is missed.

Mother Mary cannot be described by notes. It has to be experienced to be enjoyed. There are many pieces to this intricate puzzle but all are painstakingly and lovingly put into place to form a bigger picture. Happy 2010! It's been unusually cold here in the mountains this past week. Perfect weather to inspire me to stay indoors and work on Good Judy! As promised, changes have been made to the site, and more will be happening over the next few weeks. The links have been cleaned up making it easier to find the perfumes, aromatic spritzers, and mineral bath salts.

This update brings a lot of new perfumes in a few new categories, plus some teases about things to come.


***ENDANGERED SPECIES

The Endangered Species perfume line is dedicated to educating and increasing awareness of Earth's endangered animals. 10% of every bottle purchase will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Please read up on the importance of conservation efforts and educate yourself and others on the importance of sharing our planet. Endangered Species perfumes are a new general catalog line but due to the charitable donations are not available as Whiff selections. Thanks.

Black Jaguar: Found on the American continent from Texas, Arizona and California to the rainforests of Central and South America, jaguars are the largest and most powerful cats in the Western Hemisphere. The largest threat to the jaguar population is man. While protected, jaguars are still poached for their beautiful coats. With forests and grasslands being cleared for cities, the jaguar's natural habitats are being destroyed. The jaguar is a Near Threatened species with their numbers declining. Blue Whale: The largest animal on Earth. The most beautiful and graceful to watch. Their haunting calls echo with emotion. From whaling, to killings from increased ocean traffic (colliding with ocean vessels and getting tangled in fishing nets), Blue Whales have been massacred throughout the years. Dhole: Living in the jungles of south and southeast Asia, The Dhole (also called an Asiatic Wild Dog or Red Dog) is in danger of extinction from habitat destruction and human persecution. While not as known as the Wolf or other hunting dogs, Dholes appeared in a story by Rudyard Kipling in 1865, but were depicted as more aggressive than in real life. Giant Panda: As the most recognized symbol of wildlife conservation, the Giant Panda population in the wilds of Central China numbers less than 2000. Polar Bear: Polar Bears have the unfortunate distinction of being the first species to be threatened due to climate change. Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse: This little critter has garnered a lot of media attention of late, mostly due to the erroneous charges of conservatives linking the Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse to an earmarked $30 million of the Economic Stimulus Package. While this endangered animal could use that $30 million all to itself, in fact, the group obtaining the funds said it would work toward conserving the salt marshes and wetlands of the San Francisco Bay area which happen to be the natural habitat for the mouse. Snow Leopard: Climate changes, illegal poaching for its highly desired fur and the destruction of its natural habitat have placed the Snow Leopard on the endangered species list. Living in the rugged mountains of Central Asia, Snow Leopards are said to number up to 7,000…but counting these elusive creatures is difficult due to their shy nature. Sri Lankan Elephant: Centuries of ivory trading, plus drought, deforestation, and poaching have endangered the Sri Lankan Elephant. The remaining population is said to number around 2500, but the elephants continue to die at an alarming rate. Coconut, palm jiggery, wood apple, guava, wild fern

Virginia Big-Eared Bat: Disturbances from humans, namely unauthorized entry into caves, limestone mining, and destruction of habitat (including spraying of pesticides), have caused the Virginia Big-Eared Bat's numbers to decline. The Big-Eared Bat is most susceptible to disturbances during hibernation. The extra flying combined with lack of food source causes the animals to become weak and even die. Just up the road from Good Judy, a recent discovery of a colony of 55 bats at Grandfather Mountain was a positive sign. Music is everything to me. When I started blending perfumes, I always likened perfume notes to music notes. A finite number of notes creating an infinite number of creations, with endless combinations creating a symphony of scent. Just like music, perfume captures emotion and creates memories.
