FAQs

Where did the name Good Judy come from?
The question of the day! After hours and hours of thinking up names, and a couple (million) false starts and dead ends, it came down to one word...Judy.

Judy is a term created decades ago that was used to explain any unknown substance which was not readily identifiable. Throughout the years, the term morphed into its present incarnation and is now used for well known liquids i.e. gas is car judy, lip balm is lip judy, perfume is smell-good judy.

Lo and behold, GoodJudy.com was born!

Who creates the perfumes for Good Judy?
I do! We do! You do! Let's break that down shall we?

-'I do' means that the final creating and crafting of the blends is done by me, Siggster.
-'We do' means that friends, family, and fans offer their input and advice for names, notes, and themes for the blends.
-'You do' means that I keep my nose and ears open and my eyes peeled for suggestions, advice, hints, and smells that the public and adoring fans will love.

So, in essence, Good Judy is a collaborative process that encourages and invites participation and creativity on many levels, from many sources.

Who influences/inspires you?
Good Judy is proud to say that we are inspired and influenced by a wide range of people.

My mother, Mary Jo, is first on the list. She created and owned Mary Jo's Bakery for 15 years. Thanks to her, I grew up baking, cooking, and loving to eat. Oh the smells that would emanate from that place. Scrumptious!

My inspiration to start blending came from my love for all things smelly: Conjure Oils, BPAL, Possets, HAEE...to name a few. I would be remiss not to include my addiction to a multitude of perfume creations as part of the inspiration that started me down the path of blending.

Lastly, there is love and life. Love and life include art, music, writing, photography, and connection with self and others. That's what inspires and influences my daily existence. Friends, family, love and life. That's what it's all about.

How long do the perfumes last?
All perfumes are made to order to offer maximum viability and shelf life. That being said, shelf life varies (depending on the notes) and there are many factors involved.

Air, sunlight and heat decrease the shelf life. For maximum life, oils should be kept in a cool, dry environment and away from sunlight. Oils are decanted into heavy amber glass bottles to keep them viable for as long as possible. Make sure lids are closed tight after each use.

Why does this perfume smell different on Jack and Judy than it does on me?
While all of our perfumes are finished products, there is one ingredient missing: your skin. Everybody's skin chemistry is different depending on their diet, other products being used (such as lotions, soaps and detergents) and their genes. Oils react to an individual's skin chemistry causing scent variations from one person to another.

Why does X blend last all day when Y blend lasts a few hours?
There are many reasons. One goes back to skin chemistry. Notes last different lengths of time on different people. Due to differences in the notes, some blends are naturally stronger than others because the notes themselves are stronger. Lighter top notes usually dissipate faster than heavier bottom notes.

Another reason may be due to other products you are using (lotions, soaps, detergents) or even clothing rubbing the oil off. Experiment with oil placement (top of wrist, in hair, on clothing, scent locket etc.) to enhance results. Remember, some blends will simply not last as long as others. Those blends, my dear folks, will become your revered slather scents!

I am sensitive/allergic/not sure of...
Even though our blends are made from high quality ingredients, skin irritation and allergic reactions may occur. If skin irritation occurs, discontinue skin contact and try using the perfume in a diffuser or scent locket. If allergic reaction occurs, discontinue all use of that particular blend. If you are unsure, test a small amount before slathering!
